Hamilton Holt Scholarship Fund

A Brief History

The Hamilton Holt Kiwanis Scholarship Fund is owned and administered by The Kiwanis Club of Macon for the purpose of granting scholarships to deserving students who reside in Bibb County, Georgia. Charter member Dr. William Jacob Little is considered the father of the fund which was established in July 1923 as the Kiwanis-Mercer Educational Fund for the purpose of granting low interest loans to residents of Bibb County to attend Mercer University.  On February 21, 1930, a second fund known as the Kiwanis-Wesleyan Educational Fund was established and funded by the Kiwanis Club of Macon for the purpose of assisting female residents of Bibb County in obtaining a college education at Wesleyan College by making low interest loans to young women found to be worthy thereof.

In May 1969 the Kiwanis Club of Macon approved changing the name of the trust to the Hamilton Holt Kiwanis Educational Loan Fund in honor of  former President of the Kiwanis Club of Macon and later President of Kiwanis International, Mr. Hamilton T. Holt.  The first scholarship was awarded in 1996.
