Mount De Sales Key Club Participates in "Rooms from the Heart"
by Taylor Heacock
“Rooms from the Heart“ is a non-profit organization that creates dream rooms for children with life threatening or long-term illnesses. My mother, a board member for this organization, told me of their mission , and what they had planned for their first project. I thought it would be a great for the Mount de Sales Key Club to help out. I went to Mr. Don Coates with information on the organization and asked members of our club to join me for the first project of this organization. On November 3rd, members of our Key Club met with volunteers from “Rooms from the Heart” bright and early at 8:30 AM. We were to redecorate, build a sitting room and a brand new closet for nine year old , Abby Wilson. Abby has a rare form of lung cancer, formally only found in adults. The event made the local news, and newspaper. Our job was to make sure the first room decorated was a success. We helped out by painting the walls, decorating lamps and a new bureau, sweeping up the trash from remodeling and hanging up Abby’s clothes in her new closet. Abby’s new room was complete with a new Wii game system and television set. Abby and her parents had spent the day in Atlanta giving us time complete the remodeling of her room. They returned around 6:30, which seemed to be seconds after we put the finishing touches on the room. When Abby saw her room her eyes lit up with excitement. Her mother was overwhelmed, crying and giving the Mount de Sales volunteers hugs. It was truly gratifying to see a young girl’s world change through a new room and knowing you helped make it all happen.
